Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI) for Grade 1

SCREENING

The Screening Section is only administered at the BoY and the EoY and is different in both test. For an overview see BoY and EoY. The BoY has a Graphophonemic Knowledge Task, a Word Reading task and a Phonemic Awareness Task. The EoY only has the Word Reading and the Phonemic Awareness Task.

BoY

1. Graphophonemic Knowledge
2. Word Reading
3. Phonemic Awareness

On the Graphophonemic Task at the BoY, if a child scores 8 (out of 10) or more, she is send to the following Word Reading Task. A score of 7 or lower sends the student to the Phonemic Awareness Task.

If the student scores according to TEA's standards on the Word Reading Task or the Phonemic Awareness task, she will skip all the Phonemic Awareness and Graphophonemic Knowledge Tasks of the Inventory Section and go straight to the Word List that will place her in one of the five Comprehension Section Stories.

If the student scores below standard on the Word Reading task, she will advance to the following (Phonemic Awareness)task without skipping. A score of 4 or below will send the student to the Inventory Section.

EoY

1. Word Reading
2. Phonemic Awareness

The EoY does not have a Graphophonemic Knowledge task. Students who pass the tasks (score 5 or more) will proceed to the Word Placement List and skip the Inventory Section. A below standard score on the Word Reading task will advance the student to the following (Phonemic Awareness) task. If a student scores 4 or below on the Phonemic Awareness task, she will start the Inventory Section.
