My name is Mona Flynn. I have been a stay at home mom for the past 14 years and now it is time to get back into the work force.
The WWW Certification programs offered through Austin Community College (ACC)
seemed like a good
way to learn what WWW designers/programmer are faced with today and to resurrect my
skills of many years ago. It appears to me that working with the internet is most common now so
learning some of the skills of a WWW designer or programmer would give me an opportunity for employment.
I created this project for the Advanced WWW Authoring class offered through ACC. It shows some of the skills
that I have learned in the 3 classes which I have taken for WWW Authoring.
A little more about me,
I grew up in Massachusetts and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from
The University of Massachusetts/Amherst.
I then worked for IBM for 16 years on various computer
applications using various platforms and software languages. IBM provided vast amounts of training
for their employees to become productive in whatever task they were given. For IBM on their Federal
Systems Division Projects in Gaithersburg MD, I programmed in the JOVIAL
computing language on MVS systems as part of a real-time application. This programming phase included
the entire cycle over many years for me; design, code, unit test, integrated testing, installation,
operations support and trouble/problem isolation and repair. From this project I moved into a
research and development project that required C programming on AIX platforms to include some XWindows
development. About this time I was placed into a more leadership role which included being part of a
project management team for a new system being developed on UNIX systems. Because of changes in my life,
having married, I ended up moving to Raleigh, NC and worked for IBM in RTP exercising some of my C programming
skills as well as MVS platform skills. IBM started the implementation of SAP for their Personal Computing
business so I moved over to this project and learned ABAP and led a team of developers
in various tasks within the IBM SAP installation. There was a need to use file transfers within
programs that were written on MVS systems and so I and a few others became MQSeries certified.
A new chapter of my life opened when I started having children. I worked for a few years part time
and then was able to stop work and focus on the family life. During this time we moved to
Texas and re-established the children's activities and education. My activities have been focused
around my children's interest and one of my latest was starting a new swim booster club for my
son's new high school swim booster club.
