While traveling from Oregon to Austin in 2003, my family and I stayed the night in Provo, Utah in preparation for the next day's drive to Denver, Colorado. The following morning, we awoke to a blowing snowstorm. Determined to keep on schedule, we left Provo driving south on I-15 watching for Highway 6 which connects to I-70 outside of Green River Utah.
Because of the snow, we missed the turn-off for Highway 6 and instead continued driving south on I-15. After a couple of hours we emerged from the snow storm and realized we were way off track. The map indicated that I-15 eventually connects to I-70, so we decided to just make it an adventure and see a part of the country we would ordinarily miss.
Once we turned East again we discovered that I-70 between I-15 and Green River is a stretch of road almost void of travelers. We saw very few cars and even fewer places to stop for gas. A look at the map indicated we would travel for more then a 100 miles through the area known as the San Rafel Swell. We had no idea we were about to see one of the most pristine and beautiful areas of the country.
